CCC Ventilator Build-Off

Coahoma Community College Annual Ventilator Build-Off

In an effort to promote critical thinking skills, the annual ventilator build-off was developed to help each sophomore class forgo a challenge and design and build a working ventilator.  The rules are simple, (1) it must be an original design, (2) it must be electric, pneumatic, or manual, (3) the students must be able to describe the function and mechanical / physical principles of operation, (3) they may use anything at hand to build it, and finally, (4) they can only spend $10.00 total.

Previous entries include the "Converted Breast Pump Ventilator", the Electric Power Seat Ventilator", and the "Road-Side Hazard Flasher Motor Ventilator",

On March 26th, 2010, the 3rd Annual Ventilator Build-Off

The Third Annual Ventilator build-Off was held at the Health Sciences Program Complex.

This year's Winner is the "Life Saver 3000" Team

The team members included:

Michael Hickmon

Donald Savery

Sasha Weatherspoon

The Life Saver 3000 Ventilator was composed of an air compressor, tubing, and a testing lung.  A shut-off valve from a hot water heater was inserted into a large teddy bear to give a life-like effect of patient respiration.
